Sea Tel satellite communications products
Series 96 and Series 97 technology

Isolation at sea is no longer a viable option. High speed data transmission and multi-channel voice communications have become as critical at sea as they are on land. Two-way fax, voice, multi-conferencing, Internet and video links improve morale and day-to-day operations by bringing sea and shore together. With Sea Tel, you can count on precise, reliable uplinks and downlinks - regardless of weather or movement.

Sea Tel customers that have very large communications requirements typically use these systems. They typically provide 64-256 Kb/s data rates. Up to 1,544 Mb/s have been supported. End users include the offshore oil industry, cruise ships and the US Navy, freighters, tankers, fishing and foreign navies from around the globe.

Satellite Communications: NEW, Sea Tel Series and 97 Technology

Series 96 and Series 97 are the new standard for seaborne tracking systems with MIL-spec performance at commercial prices. When Ka-band satellites come on line, these antennas are ready - with pointing accuracy so high you can have all the data intensive services on board that you would expect from a land-based system.

  • Sea Tel's new Series 96 and Series 97 are the highest performance stabilization platforms for transmit and receive applications ever built commercially. They represent the next generation of marine stabilized antenna systems for Satellite Communications and TV-at-Sea.
  • For the price of lesser systems, you get the unsurpassed quality of this superior technology.
  • The applications are voice and high speed data delivering telephone, fax, high speed data services (ISDN, plus), video and images, video conferencing, Internet and more.
  • Series 96 Model 4096 passed US Navy Military Specifications Test 901D for shock standards and Test 167B for Mast Mount Vibration. This marks the first time a commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) stabilized antenna system has ever passed military shock and vibration test standards.
  • Both the Series 96 and Series 97 share their high levels of performance and reliability, differing only in their antenna sizes and structural elements supporting the larger dishes.
  • Using solid state electronics, both the Series 96 and Series 97 have fewer moving parts to breakdown giving you greater reliability at sea than ever before.

What are the main advantages of Series 96 and Series 97?

These new three axis pedestals incorporate Sea Tel's latest technology enhancements in stabilization accuracy - for the price of lesser systems. In fact, stabilization accuracy's now approach 0.1 degrees maximum error in the presence of +25 degrees roll and +15 degrees pitch. From C-band to Ku-band, you'll see a difference in signal stability, fewer acquisition losses and greater reception clarity.

What does this mean to the Sea Tel customer?

You gain enhanced performance and reliability in voice, fax, satellite television and high speed data applications to mariners from Ku-band (1.5 GHz) to Ka-band (30/20 GHz) frequencies. This dynamic performance is achieved through the interaction of two different operations:

  • Antenna stabilization - a platform stable enough to neutralize even the most severe conditions at sea
  • Satellite tracking - staying locked on the signal with the incredible pointing accuracy of Con Scan tracking

But can Sea Tel deliver when the weather gets rough?

The key to dependable marine communications is combining stabilization and tracking accuracy and to do it effectively in harsh weather conditions on the high seas. Only Sea Tel can deliver the worlds most advanced generation of marine stabilized antenna systems for commercial satellite communications at sea.

Others might be able to design commercial systems that work at the dock, but Sea Tel has achieved these high performance levels for commercial applications even in the harsh conditions of open sea.

Sea Tel satellite communications products are offered in two categories: the Series 96 and the Series 97. Products in both categories have many similarities. The primary differences in the categories are the size of the dishes and the structural requirements to support them.

Series 96 Satellite Communications Systems (transmit and receive) come with dish sizes of 1.0 meter, 1.2 meters and 1.4 meters. These are all linear Ku-band systems, upgradeable to Ka-band.

Series 97 systems offer dish sizes of 1.5 meters, 2.05 meters and 2.4 meters. The 1.5 and 2.05 and 2.4 meter dishes are offered for linear Ku-band frequencies; the 2.05 and 2.4 meter dishes are also offered for linear C-band; and the 2.4 meter dish can also be used for circular C-band applications.

All Series 96 and Series 97 products embrace these features:

  • Less than .2 degrees mis-pointing at +/- 25 degrees roll and +/- 15 degrees pitch
  • Automatic satellite acquisition
  • Unlimited azimuth turning
  • Automatic linear polang positioning (N/A for circular systems)
  • Unlimited outdoor cable run and ACU data multiplexed on coax
  • Versatile gyrocompass interface
  • Conical Scan Tracking
  • CE marked
  • Meets or exceeds US Navy Mil-standards for vibration, EMI & RFI and Grade A shock
